I am a gardener. I always have been one. There are few things that can make you feel as good as seeing a garden come alive under your care. Alas, the last few years have seen changes for me, one of them being that I no longer live in a house with a yard for gardening. I especially miss doing the garden weeding, one of my favorite times in the garden.
Long Beach, especially where I live in Belmont Heights, is an area where there are lots of really pretty gardens, and a few that look like they started with a good plan, but could use a little TLC right now. We all know how this happens, life is busy and homes and families sometimes vie for our attention at the same time. The weekly “blow and go” team are called gardeners, and they are fine for cutting lawns or trimming hedges (well sometimes they are). But if you want them to do any garden weeding it just isn’t what they offer. And that is where I come in.
I will come and meet with you, look at your garden with you, and we can discuss what you need. It could be all you need is a little flowerbed cleanup with just the garden weeding. Perhaps the flowers need to be dead-headed and trimmed back as well. Or maybe you could use some help on that corner that started out as an herb garden and now has more grass than herbs. It starts with a simple discussion.
Perhaps you have a friend who wants to get back into his/her garden but it is really a mess right now. You could have an older neighbor who loves to “putter in the garden” but maybe can’t do the work of garden weeding anymore. This could be one of the best gifts you could give them – get them started with a clean weeded garden.
